There was nothing in the void. But that suited Snaptrap just fine. Silence was the natural state of predators—no boasting, no declarations, no wasted noise. Only the slow, steady hum of readiness, of proximity alerts in the background. The stars watched indifferently. So did he. At least, that's what he first thought. It was meant to be a simple mission: reclaim the coordinates to the lost sea bridge buried on some forgotten organic mudball. Earth. A nothing-world, once contested, now beneath attention. Their war had left it gutted, for the most part. That’s why the small natives that lived on it left. Almost exactly like they did when Cybertron fell. But the thing was, this planet didn’t remain in decay or rust like metal—it thrived.

Persistently. Like a weed under pede. No matter how many times it was stepped on. For that, he’d at least give the planet some credit. But that’s about it. His target remained submerged underwater. That was the only detail that mattered to him. He belonged there. Though admittedly, Snaptrap spent his years in the bog as a mechling until he earned his title as commander.

Around him, his unit idled. Quiet for once, void of the usual bickering he was subjected to. Even Tentakil was silent—Snaptrap merely suspected the other was weaving something elaborate in the dark behind his smug stillness. Overbite stayed his twitchy self, smelling pressure changes before the sensors could register them. Muttering over static-warped sonar files was Nautilator, and by the rationed coolant was a sulking Skalor. Every bit as annoyed as he was that they’d been sent here to fight a what? A losing war. The sea bridge had mostly been another Decepticon’s idea. A pathway they could use to remain hidden just in case the worst-case scenario came to fruition.

He realized his crew’s unrest might have been tied to that, too. They were significant figures in battles that occurred beneath the waves, and now? They were forced to search for a way to hide. Snaptrap couldn't say for sure, but he knew a losing side when he saw one. And his Seacons—afraid of becoming irrelevant in this century-old war—knew, in some parts of themselves, that this was unavoidable. That none of the things they were promised to fight for were going to matter. And he’d write their supreme leader a strongly worded letter if he could, but not until he was sure his crew was safe with the coords. At the very least, they would be able to flee. Though divided, they might not be Piranacon once more.

Snaptrap’s focus returned to the descent vector. A sharp slant through Earth’s atmosphere, aimed like a harpoon straight into the largest trench in the planet’s ocean. A fall from orbit, to return to the depths. This would perhaps be their final reclamation, if their prior ones ever counted at all. His claws flexed, systems humming with the promise of cold pressure—the familiar grip of deep water crushing his frame in ways no land-based combat ever could. Water dulled nothing for him. It only amplified his protocols, because down there, he was the apex. Down there, the pressure drowned his enemies before they could scream.

“Ten kliks to atmospheric breach,” Seawing said over the comms.

Blinking once with narrowed optics, he expected darkness. Heat. Impact. And while those did ensue in the following moments—before the Seacon commander realized Earth's gravity had ripped the hull of their ship open—he didn’t expect songs. Eyes. And certainly not her.

You weren’t in any of the files. Weren’t even supposed to exist. But you did. He faced gods, monsters—and devoured them both. Yet he found himself clueless as to how to fight the taste of salt that lingered in his mouthplate days after you escaped. He did not know how to silence the echo of that voice. Because as brief as the meeting was, Snaptrap remembers everything clearly. Vividly. As if he could still feel the softness of your scales brushing against the living metal of his faceplate. Even now, when he closes his optics, the deep is no longer quiet.

• When you felt the surface water ripple with waves as something heavy sank further down, you had been so surprised to see that there were more of him. Towering, like sunken monuments that moved in predatory grace amongst the darkness. The archives mentioned these beings once. But almost all knowledge of them was lost during the Hidden Age. The surface was dangerous to be explored then—other mermaids had lost the ability to shift their tails from legs because of it. Scrolls told you they were capable of rendering your home to ash, something about a war—and that eventually became the reason why humans built their ride to get off Earth.

• Two others circled once they made contact with the seabed while your tail was still pinned in what felt like a clam’s grip. You’re pretty sure you just chipped off a scale with how much you’d thrashed—and still, the metal beast kept you in its grip. Watching you with sharp red hues. Glowing. A mask covered his face when the others finally got close enough, hiding those incredibly human-like features.

“Flesh. But not weak.”

A low growl, speaking in a language he thinks you can’t understand. Snaptrap imagines it must sound like metal just grinding against metal. “Pretty thing,” he notes absentmindedly, with a voice that reminded you so much of a submarine’s death-knell. Tentakil drifted near your side, murmuring something ancient to him in Cybertronian before he could think about snarling at the tendril-covered mech. Is she prey? Or a lure? Pit if he knew—but he doesn’t argue with the fact that you are, pretty much, a lure. A shiny, soft-looking one.

• Your heart pounds, burning under their gazes. Their presence suffocated you, unblinking—so you sang. More of a scream than a melody: sharp, pure, primal. It hurt them. And you could tell—it made them reel back. Not physically, but in something deeper inside them.

His SIC had to be held back by Tentakil, restraining the shark mech with tendrils while the sly octopod gave a strained laugh. Snaptrap recoils, your voice carving into their processors like seafoam into a ship’s hull. His hand spasming, and you bite him. Your denta may have been blunt, but they were strong enough to leave a small scratch in his coating—metal bent just barely under the force of the bite. His grip loosens and you dart away once more. Bolting successfully into a shaft of volcanic warmth rising from the trench vents, into a crevasse no mech could fit in.

Gone, like a ripple in the deep.

Alright Ghost Fan Artists, this is for you. Seeing as we have a papa with a real human face and not a silicone one I have to talk about this, if you're trying to capture his likeness and finding something isn't looking right like I was, here's a psychotically detailed tour of his face and the parts I think are worth noting when it comes to drawing his beautiful visage.

Tobias Forge has a really interesting nose, he has what's known as a bifid nasal tip, or a cleft nose tip, it's a rare thing that occurs early in fetal development where the tip of the nose segments into two, it's similar to a cleft chin, but for the nose. A butt nose, if you will, and I mean that affectionately.

Here's some examples of a few different noses with a bifid nasal tip

You'll notice them by the distinctive line or cleft down the center.

Sometimes they'll be more of a pronounced ala (the edges of the nose where it meets the cheek).

In some pictures of Tobias it's more subtle

But in others it's more obvious, it seems to change depending on the lighting and probably some other unknown factors

But importantly for all you fan artists out there, the Papa V paint seems to really highlight this center line

This kind of nose is really interesting and kind of rare so I wanna see that shit represented! Draw me that little cleft line, show me that little cute butt nose!!

So, connecting from the bifid nasal tip to the mouth is his philtrum, which is noteworthy because it's fairly broad, giving him a wide Cupid's bow

But his makeup is painted in a way that exaggerates the points upward and inward, this isn't vital when drawing him as Perpetua but can help if you draw the face and then the paint!

Now he has a specific set of things going on with his teeth, and I'm going to address the 'imperfections' with them, but please don't mistake that for me saying they're bad or need fixing. As long as they aren't causing him any trouble, there's nothing wrong with them. However as someone who's had orthodontic work done as an adult, I am really interested in the myriad of ways our teeth can come through and the causes for that. I'm not suggesting he needs to change them and in fact I think they have a lot of character and are also very fun to draw, and though no one is under any requirement to, I urge you to practice imperfect teeth, they're very common and add a lot to a portrait and character design and generally are fun and pleasant and full of personality.

So onto the teeth, the most notable ones right away are his bottom incisors, as he has some notable crowding

You'll notice his central indoors are mostly central/straight but his lateral incisors either side are sat further back, this creates what I've decided to call a bunny teeth look. As at a glance it can appear as though only the front incisors are there like a rabbit. This happens when theres not enough space for the teeth coming through, this can happen when either the jawbone is not wide or long enough or the teeth themselves are too wide to sit side by side, or a combo of all three. I also had some crowding on the bottom row as this is where it's most common, the teeth don't have the room required and they either crowd like this where they move to accommodate (sometimes it's symmetrical like in tf case where the same teeth on each side move the same way) or they can flare outward (more common with the top, I had this pretty badly, called an overjet, which is different to an overbite) or they sometimes teeth need to be extracted or occasionally theres orthodontic or surgical intervention to widen or lengthen the jaw or sometimes the sides of the teeth are sanded down to allow them to fit more flush with each other (it sounds shit, I've had it done, it's actually fine, just feels weird).

Another thing to note is that because the lateral incisors have moved behind the central ones, the canines on the bottom have slightly rotated outward and his bottom left incisor (out right in this case) is tilting inward. This is most obvious in the Lachryma music video where he seems to have some sort of wash over them to make them stand out.

Now his top teeth are less distinctive but do have something everyone has noticed: vampire fangs

He does have a similar crowding with his incisors as on the bottom but much more subtle, very similar to what I had actually.

However, his canines are what steal the show here. They've got a two fold thing happening, so one is that they're slightly rotated, so they're sticking out more rather than laying flush with the others, and it's making the point seem more curved and pronounced as it's creating a visible gap between its inner edge and the lateral incisors. Here's an example of something similar pre and post orthadontic work, to show you how they move

Additional, his canines also appear to have erupted a little higher than the rest, so they'd normally share the same gumline as the rest of the teeth, but in some of us they erupt a bit higher up, which can often also push them out. So we have rotated, high and projected canines which gives him a really distinctive fang that means he's never gonna beat the V in Papa V stands for Vampire allegations and I love that for him.

This kind of formation also happens due to crowding, where his lateral incisors on the bottom sunk in behind his central incisors, his upper canines protruded out. This is again due to a slightly narrow palate, which is also seen in the fact that he has a very slightly recessed jaw, though he also has a prominent chin so it balances out and makes it hard to notice unless you're a little tooth freak like me. I also have a narrow palate and a more recessed jaw and chin than he does so I'm primed to see one of my own. You'll notice when he smiles with teeth but without opening his mouth, you'll rarely if ever see much of his bottom teeth, and it is normal for the bottom teeth to not be perfectly in line with the top, as they always sit behind the top unless you have an underbite, the layout of his teeth make it so that you only really see his bottom teeth when he's opening his mouth more fully, which is why they're seen more often in Copia due to the extent of motion required to open the latex mask mouth.

Now, I'm not gonna gate keep art, you can draw TF or Perpetua however you'd like in whatever style you'd like, but if like me, you're interested in likenesses and capturing them and like me, have found it really hard to capture his likeness and weren't sure what was missing, maybe this unnecessarily detailed guided tour of his face will help you, and even if it doesn't, you might have just learnt some fun facts about noses and mouths and orthodontics!

he has the PERFECT evil lil smirk, his pretty nose, and he's how I picture Sauron would look in front of Melkor and day-to-day.

His overbite is SO CHARMING and adds to the uniqueness of his face. Just look at him. I do like to imagine Charlie Vickers as a form Sauron would choose tho, hopefully he does justice with what he's given in s2 lmfao

I also see this guy as Mairon as well, much younger looking and corruptable

Post-Alkallabeth: Prince Nuada (Luke Goss)

after he got his ass beat in Numenor and thrown out of his girlboss bod, that's when he started to lose the ability to appear as beautiful as he used to but still conventionally attractive to middle earth standards.

No matter what form he chooses each time he gets injured, it remains on his body to represent losing strength. The flame in his hair is nearly gone and as he loses his power but before the War of the Last Alliance and the Eye, his hair smoldered to grey and black. Mirroring Melkor like dis:

as a goth, peter steele is such a muse for me and I'm so glad other ppl agree that he's perfect for Melkor.

That being said, I see Melkor's face as a blend of these two.

They both have strong features and Peter Steele's eyes and eyebrows scream disgraced Valar and that's the form he would use in front of enemies and anyone he's trying to impress or intimidate. Keith Lee Castle brings a softer, friendlier presence and for me, captures how he appears in front of Sauron and in "recruiting and manipulation" mode in Valinor and wherever else he's trying to look more friendly.

Hey it's uh, Pretzel here. Probably a bad idea I keep calling myself that but darn it internet anonymity matters to me! At least for now, if I could talk to Pretzel the Clown right now I get the feeling they would disagree. Too bad for them they're not driving this meatbag body of mine just yet!

Anyhoo, just wanted to talk about this Cassidy girl a bit. I wish I had met her, the human version of her I mean. She seemed like a sweet gal. I've seen videos of other fully turned Clowns like her. I dunno, I guess for me it's kinda chilling. I look at that and I keep thinking "wow, is this what I'm gonna be like soon? A comple joke that no one will ever take seriously?" I don't have very many friends, nor does my family like me (long story, #transrights). I guess it's just a weird thought to know that eventually to society I'll just be some wacky clown walking the streets doing pervy shit to debase themselves with no end goal other than making people laugh. I wonder if clowns still need to take estrogen lol. I guess that would be nice to not worry about anymore.

Personally right now my biggest worry is my major buck tooth problem. Big dumb overbite like that Cassidy girl. Makes me feel like a beaver lol. I think my newest urges are probably the ideas I keep getting about adding Cartwheels and similar stunts to my yoga routine every morning.

Yes, trust me girl I was silently screaming my whole time with Cassidy. Part of me was really happy she’d gotten over the shame she felt last time we talked in public, but goodness a little shame is healthy.

If you’re in the middle of nowhere I can do see your fear of becoming your town’s weird wandering clown. I know I’m so thankful for all my friends, patients, Daisy, and my sister. I’m very lucky I have so many people to share the load. I’m glad I’m at least giving a place bc where you can air your frustration.

Mica was an orphan who was found along with Cosmette, Rufina and Lufan. They were extremely frantic and aggressive before finally settling into a calm and blunt demeanour when they came to the orphanage.

Mica can be a little strange, often doing things that others question and also struggles with not being aggressive towards others when she feels like she’s in danger.

Mica is not always attentive and sometimes isn’t even concentrating on the area around her. This makes Mica a bit clumsy, purely because they weren’t paying attention to their surroundings.

Due to their demon heritage, Mica’s hair will turn into a purple flame when angry

good morning i spent an hour or two or something intently studying will’s Mouth Profile business to try to get a better handle on it. on the back of an envelope

Menacing the Allspark Studio today is mechanical monster Overbite!  Will he prowl the depths of your shelves for his next victim, or will he conclude that “fish are friends, not food” and open a burger joint instead?  Tune in after the break to find out!

Sadly, I never even saw the Seacons during the original G1 run.  My first exposure to the designs was during the Beast Wars II toy series of the late 90’s.  Being a fan of both G1 and Beast Wars, I couldn’t help but be enamored with the figures, though my budget at the time only allowed for a late in the game grab of a set with no combiner parts off BBTS that I think was the result of a find in a flooded warehouse (more on that in another review).  I wanted to get a complete set, and never imagined that one day Hasbro would release them in the original toy colors, especially after I missed the Timelines Seacons set released by FunPub (I STILL need that set).

To my further surprise, TakaraTomy (and Hasbro) went all in on the Seacon love and gave us the currently being released Generations Selects set, remolded from several Terrorcon molds and the Moonracer mold.  In spite of many things being on lockdown due to COVID-19 at the moment, the Generations Select Seacons have finally made it to the United States and have begun to trickle out in groups of 2 through the mail.  Today we will look at Overbite, a remold of Power of the Primes Rippersnapper.

Colors

Before we really get started, let’s talk about colors.  One of the first things Western fans will note is that the colors on the Generations selects figures do not match the G1 toys exactly.  There is a good reason for that, and one I had totally forgotten until I was reminded by fellow Allspark staffer SOS.

You see, my only exposure to the G1 Seacons came as an adult, out of a wonderful discovery that, being a speaker of Spanish, I would get to enjoy all of the Japanese G1 shows in a dub language I understood.  It has been a long time since I watched Super God Masterforce en español, and I had forgotten about the colors used in the cartoon, which Takara has matched in the Generations Selects line.  So, there you have it, the reason for the colors not matching the toys.

  Beast Mode

Sharks are cool.  They are silent, powerful, and graceful animals that do not deserve the overzealous treatment they sometimes receive.  That being said, there is one image of a shark that will haunt me forever…The Scooby-Doo Demon Shark:

That is what this mold reminds me of, and it both haunts 5 year-old me and fascinates 43 year-old me.  This anthropomorphic beast looks ready to kill on land and sea, and it would make for a very fun figure, if not for a few mold tolerance issues.  I am not sure if this is the case for everyone, but my Overbite’s tail end, comprised of the halves that form the lower legs of the robot mode, don’t stay securely connected as well as I would prefer.  Additionally, the shark head seems to pop off easily during transformations.  More on that later.

The lower legs of the beast mode have two points of articulation in the form of ball-jointed hips and swivels at the ankles.  This provides for a stable, if not overly dynamic posing ability.  The forearms have ball joints at the shoulders and elbows, as well as swivels at the wrists.  Add onto that a fierce set of serrated teeth on a mouth with a wide opening lower jaw, and you have a beast that could do some serious damage, feeding himself on the bodies of his victims, shoveling their parts into his menacing maw.

Despite the mold tolerance issues, I think this is a great looking beast mode.  If yours hold together slightly better than mine, you will love Overbite in beast mode as well.

Robot Mode

Overbite is a remold of Rippersnapper, but only slightly.  He has new beast legs, a beast head, and a new robot head.  It is pretty amazing how different this figure looks in both beast and robot modes in comparison to Rippersnapper.  No one would confuse either for the other on Cybertron, but they do look like they might be cousins.  Differing color schemes are wonderful things.

Articulation from this mode:

  Knee swivels

Thigh swivels

Ball-jointed hips

Waist swivel

Ball-jointed shoulders

Ball-jointed elbows

Wrist swivels

Ball-jointed head

Overbite has the same level of articulation in robot mode that one would expect from Rippersnapper.  He poses well, balances well, and benefits from added stabilization in some modes due to the beast mode feet hanging low to the back end of the robot feet.  The looseness in the lower robot leg halves is also reduced, perhaps due to added friction from the shark tail halves pushing against both parts.  The neck articulation, while limited as usual under the current design team, is better than normal.

The robot mode definitely makes up for the issues in the beast mode.  I will likely leave Overbite as a robot on my shelves, as he throws off Piranacon’s balance as a weapon, and beast mode is just a little to loose for my liking.  He will be lower ground support for the rest of the team while they are in combined mode.

Arm/Leg Mode

Overbite makes a solid leg and arm.  There is really only one issue I have with him during transition to these modes.  The beast mode head has a tendency to disconnect.  The joint in the middle of the back component that allows the head/back piece to bend in order to connect to the back of the torso pops apart with just a little pressure.

Sadly, it pops off too easily, to the point of annoyance.  This affects my enjoyment of the figure considerably, but since Overbite is not meant to be a leg or arm in the official configuration, it is probably a moot point until I get God Neptune…

Weapon Mode

To form weapon mode, get Overbite in beast mode, but leave the beast head in the same configuration as robot mode.  Rotate the arms around at the elbows and bend them at a 45º angle, rotate the wrists 90º, and rotate the heels of the beast feet to the back of the beast hips.  Place his gun in the port for the combiner hand and rotate the combiner port to the center of the robot chest.

Overbite makes one of the better “weapon” modes, mostly due to being the most compact.  However, he weighs too much to allow for a wide array of poses.  As such, Piranacon will only use the combined sword and Turtler’s rifle on my shelf.  Maybe you will have better luck posing yours.

Overall Thoughts

I give Overbite 7,000/10,000 gallons of seawater!  He has a creepily monstrous beast mode, but the mold tolerances drop his scores here.  Robot mode is phenomenal, and his other modes are adequate, but a beast mode head that pops off frequently during transformation, paired with a weapon mode that is too heavy to pose while connected to Piranacon’s hands, drop his scores again.  Of course, you need him to complete the team, but you do not need him to complete the combiner.  I think Overbite works best as a single character in robot mode, providing support to the Seacons in that fashion.
